Boston University Sydney Internship Program
What was the BEST part about studying abroad?
I made friends from other schools, countries, and continents that I’ll have forever.
What was your BIGGEST challenge when studying abroad?
I had a little bit of “culture shock” at first, even though I thought Australian culture wouldn’t be to different from American culture. There were different quirks I learned, which made me eventually feel like a true “Sydneysider”!
How did studying abroad help you?
I learned that I can travel halfway around the world and make a brand new life for myself. It was very empowering to feel like I did it all on my own. I had an internship while I was there and they wanted me to stay after my program was over! Sadly I had to return to the U.S., but it was a great feeling to have made that kind of impact!
What have you been doing post studying abroad?
Now I live in New York City and work in advertising. I work with several Australians, and it’s always great to be able to bond over talk of my Australian travels!
Your BEST piece of advice for a student who is thinking about studying abroad?
Just do it! Find a way to make it work. Whether it’s getting your grades up for the admission process or taking extra classes. Pick a place, and go. It’s worth it!
