What was the BEST part about studying abroad?
The best part of studying abroad was being able to experience living in a different culture than what I am used to. I gained so much independence that I don’t think I would have if I didn’t go abroad.
What did you learn about the rest of the world from studying abroad? What did you learn about yourself from the experience?
I was able to experience a different lifestyle that is more ideal for me, which made me a lot more comfortable in my skin. The atmosphere in Australia is great and just makes you want to relax, have fun and be yourself.
What was your BIGGEST challenge while studying abroad and how did you manage to handle it?
The biggest challenge I faced was within the first few days of moving into my apartment and feeling completely alone. Being in a new environment without any of my close friends definitely put me in a mood for a few days, and I debated whether I made the right decision going abroad. However, that feeling faded very fast as I became more and more comfortable with my abroad mates and ended up having the experience of a lifetime.
How did studying abroad change your life?
Studying abroad gave me a greater outlook on the world. I never thought I would have this bad of a travel bug, but I can’t wait to graduate so I can travel the world! Overall, I learned to take risks and have no regrets. Being scared is a good thing; it means you’re stepping out of your comfort zone and trying something different.
What are your future plans?
I hope to take a year off after graduation to travel (of course), and hopefully attend graduate school afterwards for psychology.
What’s your BEST piece of advice for someone who is thinking about studying abroad?
If you have the opportunity to go abroad, DO IT. Don’t even think twice.
